What is vox.?

vox. is an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app for iPad that helps non-verbal and minimally verbal individuals communicate. It features 3,000+ ARASAAC symbols, AI-powered suggestions, and natural speech output.

Is vox. free?

Yes! The core app is completely free with unlimited vocabulary cards, 8 voice presets, on-device AI predictions, and full accessibility support. vox. Pro unlocks premium features like emotional voices, unlimited cloud AI, and SLP reports for $12/month or $99/year.

What devices does vox. support?

vox. is designed for iPad running iPadOS 17 or later. It's optimized for iPad Pro 12.9" in landscape mode but works on all iPad models. iPhone support is not currently available.

What languages are supported?

vox. supports English, Spanish, and French with fully localized vocabulary boards, symbol labels, and speech output. You can switch languages at any time in Settings.

How do switch scanning and head tracking work?

vox. supports iOS Switch Control for switch scanning, allowing users to navigate and select symbols using external switches. Head tracking uses the iPad's front camera to detect head movements for hands-free navigation. Both can be configured in Settings > Accessibility with customizable dwell times and scan speeds.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. All phrase history and communication data stays on your device. We don't use third-party tracking, and the app is COPPA compliant for children's privacy. Optional analytics are anonymous and can be disabled at any time. Read our full Privacy Policy.

Can I customize the vocabulary board?

Yes! You can add, remove, and rearrange symbols, create nested boards, import custom images, and organize categories to match individual communication needs. Changes sync across devices for Pro users with iCloud enabled.

What are ARASAAC symbols?

ARASAAC (Aragonese Centre of Augmentative and Alternative Communication) provides a comprehensive, clinically validated symbol library used by AAC professionals worldwide. vox. includes 3,000+ ARASAAC symbols downloaded from the public API and cached locally on your device.

How does the AI prediction work?

vox. uses on-device machine learning to predict your next word based on conversation context, time of day, and usage patterns. Free users get 5 cloud AI suggestions per day; Pro users get unlimited cloud suggestions powered by Azure OpenAI for even smarter predictions.

Can my Speech-Language Pathologist use the reports?

Yes! Pro users can access the caregiver dashboard with weekly communication analytics, word frequency charts, and goal tracking. Reports can be exported as professional PDF documents designed specifically for SLP review.

How do I cancel my Pro subscription?

You can manage or cancel your Pro subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > vox. Pro. You'll retain Pro features until the end of your current billing period.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Troubleshooting

Speech output isn't working

Make sure your iPad's volume is turned up and not muted (check the side switch or Control Center). Try selecting a different voice preset in Settings > Voice. If using Azure TTS (Pro), ensure you have an active internet connection.

Symbols aren't loading

ARASAAC symbols are downloaded on first launch and cached locally. If symbols are missing, go to Settings > Data > Re-download Symbols. Ensure you have a stable internet connection during the download.

AI suggestions seem inaccurate

On-device AI learns from your communication patterns over time. For better predictions, use the app regularly. Cloud AI suggestions (Pro) provide more context-aware results. You can reset AI learning in Settings > Privacy > Reset Predictions.

iCloud sync isn't working

Ensure iCloud is enabled for vox. in your iPad's Settings > Apple ID > iCloud. You must be a Pro subscriber with sync enabled in the app's Settings > Sync. Make sure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID.
